Cyber crime as a life threat
Cybercrime is a crime that involves a
computer and a network, Cybercrime may harm someone's
security and financial health.
ü In today’s world everyone uses internet
Either it may be child, adult, or old person every individual is addicted to internet in some or the other way according to internet index. The ‘Inclusive Internet Index’ surveyed 120 countries, representing 98 per cent of global GDP and 96 per cent of the global population. According to internet survey an average person uses internet 5 hours a day .
Points to be noted
· Cyber crime is rolled around social media .
· Cyber crime can cause mental, physical and also emotional pain. It is social crime which as been illustrated by physiologists can cause mental disorder.
· The index which ranks cyber crime at international stage is GLOBAL CYBERSECURITY INDEX
· 59 percent of crime is based on internet crime
· In the first three quarters of 2020, there were 2,953 reported breaches across the globe. It was a 51% decrease compared to the same period in 2019. (Risk Based Security, 2020)
Desktops and laptops are most vulnerable to cybercrimes with the percent of 70 percent.Types of cybercrime
When a computer is the target of offence , the criminal goal is to steal information from, or cause damage to a computer, computer system or computer network.
ü Hacking
ü Cracking
ü Espionage
ü Cyberwarfare
Malicious computer viruses are common forms of
crime that target computer Types of cybercrime
There are five types of main cyber crimes:-
v Phishing.
v Cyber Extortion.
v Data breach
v Identity theft
v Harassment.
Cyber threats:-
It can be further classified into 2 types.
ü Cybercrime – against individuals,
corporates
ü Cyberwarfare – against a state.
How can you protect:-
Ø You should use a password
manager tool like LastPass Dashlane, or Sticky Password to keep track
of everything for you. These applications help you to use unique, secure
passwords for every site you need while also keeping track of all of them for
you.
Ø Keep your Softwares up
to date.
Ø Update passwards
Ø Know that identity theft can happen anywhere
Ø Know what to do if you become a victim
If you believe that you’ve
become a victim of a cybercrime, you need to alert the local police and, in
some cases, the FBI and the Federal Trade Commission.
Impacts of cyber crime-:
The list below includes some of the most immediate effects:

lost money due to online theft
·
expenses incurred to fix problems and prevent future cybercrimes
·
loss of reputation due to personal information that is revealed
·
corrupted files due to viruses
·
long-term debt created resulting in poor credit rating due to
online identity theft.
Conclusion:-
Today due to high internet penetration, cybersecurity
is one of the biggest need of the world as cybersecurity threats are very
dangerous to the country’s security. Not only the government but also the
citizens should spread awareness among the people to always update your system
and network security settings and to the use proper anti-virus so that your
system and network security settings stay virus and malware-free.
ü Right to internet as become fundamental right under article 21.
